2007 Field Day Summary

FD 2007 Flag Waves Proudly from VHF Station Antenna Tower

The year 2007 brought a new feeling of optimism to Field Day as SJRA began its tenth decade and there was good enthusiasm.  Scores would be good this year, everyone thought.  The auspicious circumstances brought a total of 51 participants, and these members and guests made a good show as 16680 points were earned in the competition.  This can be seen in the table of individual band and mode scores to the left and below.  The 40 m CW station nabbed a grand total of 1065 QSOs,  and the 80/15 CW, 20 m CW, 40 m SSB, and 80/15/10 m SSB stations all were well over 700 QSOs.  Despite dreadful sunspot numbers SJRA racked up impressive QSO totals.   In fact SJRA captured 1st place in the 6A category and a great 7th place over all categories across the United States.

Meanwhile the GOTA station lent its help with 87 QSOs, and 1890 bonus points were earned through satellite contacts, alternate radio mode demos, low power contacts, etc.  We demoed APRS and ATV, sent NTS messages to 11 lucky persons, and were visited by an invited elected official.  Added to this were over a 100 contacts thanks to K2SMD’s VHF station (2 m, 6 m, and 432 MHz).  The picture to the right captures the flare of the VHF station if not the relaxed atmosphere (Hawaiian shirts obligatory).  Notice the 432 MHz antenna atop the 6 m and 2 m Yagis on the tower, which was good for 4 points!  This was indeed a great showing, but was only a prelude to the record performance in store for 2008.
