2008 Field Day Summary

Satellite Antenna Used by Kc2TN ans K2SMD 2008There were 45 participants in the 2008 SJRA Field Day at the Savich Field site.  The year was marked by SJRA record numbers of QSOs on many of the ham radio bands.  The year was also an excellent one for bonus points – 2150 of them, including 600 GOTA bonus points to go alaong with 371 GOTA QSOs.  In another extra effort, the VHF team managed a total of 306 contacts on the 2 m and 6 m bands.  Through all these efforts, a grand total of 19434 points were accumulated.  This is the second highest total of points ever accumulated by SJRA in Field Day, topped only by the 20623 points earned in 1970 in the 7A category.  Not the least of the great efforts was that by Joe KC2TN who captured 102 points with a satellite contact using the equipment shown at the right.

The table at the left below reveals the tremendous efforts put out by many of the stations.  The 40 m CW station led with a whopping 1206 contacts.  20 m CW also scored extremely well with 884 QSOs that nearly exceeded the maximum SSB count of 907 by 40 m SSB.  The totals for 80 m CW, 15 m CW, 20 m SSB, 80 m SSB, and 10 m SSB were also well above average levels.

For GOTA, three different operators scored more than 100 QSOs among the 371 total QSOs.  Because these operators were continually coached, each 100 QSO total was rewarded with an additional 200 point GOTA bonus.
